Meet The Team
Cleria is the Founder and Director of Vida Active. She's extremely passionate about making exercise accessible and fun for everyone and she surrounds herself (and the club) with strong and positive women.
She has worked in the fitness industry for many years and managed a club for women before. Then, with a strong social mission in mind, Vida Active Club CIC was formed in May 2019.
The club, now with it's own studio in central Hove, is a safe heaven for women of all backgrounds to exercise in a safe and fun environment.
On top of that, Vida Active also caters for seniors, with exercise and social activities for people over the age of 60 five days a week, both in the Hove Studio as well as in another 5 locations in Sussex.
Tess has a background in performance and carnival dance. She found Zumba in 2017 and realised she could reach more people with joyful dance fitness this way! Tess has studied Latin and African dance and is an exercise to music qualified instructor.
Since becoming a mum, Tess has built a business around dance for mums and helping them re-find themselves post motherhood. She loves to 'feel the rhythm' and with her easy to follow routines, will ensure you do too. For Tess, it's not about getting it right, it's about enjoying yourself (and sweating!).
Marta Scott is a dancer and performer from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. She has worked as a professional dancer and singer in Europe, Israel, and the USA including Las Vegas, New York and Broadway.
Marta has been teaching Latin and Jazz Dances plus Samba for 23 years in the UK. She was the lead choreographer of Brighton School of Samba and has paraded and choreographed dance groups at eight Notting Hill Carnivals with the London School of Samba.
Marta says that 'dance has been the joy of her life for 45 years! She loves to make people smile and this fuels her to carry on. You're never too old to DANCE!'.
Paula has always had a love of fitness but didn't find the right gym or class for her until her forties. She met some incredible instructors who inspired her to undergo her Level 2 and 3 with YMCA Fit and Vibe.
Paula has combined her psychology experience with her love of fitness and teaching into a passion that now won't stop. She loves seeing others amaze themselves with what they can and achieve.
Paula's classes are fun and pack a punch. Come and join her FitBox class on Mondays and Fridays!
Grace began her Pilates journey in Melbourne. After years of high impact workouts, Grace started to suffer with joint and back pain. She joined a Pilates studio and immediately fell in love with the practice as it offers an effective workout that is challenging but gentle on the body. Besides feeling great in class, Grace noticed improvements in how she felt in daily life.
Grace took the chance to study with Stott, an international school of Pilates, when she moved to Hong Kong in 2018. Since then, Grace has taken the leap from a 9 to 5 desk job to teaching Pilates full time so she can share her love of the practice with others. Grace is trained in mat, reformer and studio Pilates. She has also completed additional training in injuries, pre & post natal exercise, TRX and barre.
Nicola is an experienced and qualified Yoga, Mindfulness and EFT Practitioner, based in Hove. She began her yoga journey 10 years ago, whilst working as a special needs teacher. After experiencing the calming benefits of yoga and mindfulness for herself, Nicola decided to introduce the practice to the vulnerable children in her class, to support their emotional health and wellbeing.
Today, Nicola has a passion for creating safe and inclusive spaces for women, whilst encouraging them to connect with their bodies, breathe mindfully, and thrive! She also enjoys seeing firsthand, the benefits yoga can have on emotional, physical and mental wellbeing.
Nicola regularly attends professional development training, to continually enhance her knowledge of yoga and other therapeutic wellbeing practices.
Zuleika started her training from 5 years old with Wing Chun Martial Arts. At 13 years old Zuleika was diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis. This made Zuleika want to learn how to keep the body well and healthy.
At 37 years old Zuleika began fitness modelling and changed her career from office to full time fitness. Her experience with Arthritis has made her want to spread the message that exercise matters!
Zuleika is an experienced trainer, from martial arts, boxing, kettlebells, strength training to running.
Now into her late 40s, she wants to help people with peri menopause, auto immune issues and generally help women to feel strong and well.
Sarah is a Pilates matwork teacher who qualified with the Pilates Foundation in 2015. Sarah teaches a flowing Pilates class focusing on releasing tension, lengthening and posture as well as strength, stability and mobility. Her sessions work through a range of movements for a balanced workout of the body. Modifications and different levels will be given as appropriate.
Since qualifying, she has continued to develop my understanding of how the body moves, through attending specialist professional development training and workshops focusing on Pilates in relation to osteoporosis, scoliosis, hypermobility and Pilates for children and teens among others. She also recently qualified as a Buff Bones ® instructor.
Kate is a Brighton based dance artist and teacher. She has been teaching dance for more years than she would like to count and has taught all ages and in all kinds of settings from community centres and schools to dance studios, gyms and festivals.
Kate trained at London Contemporary Dance School and has danced and choreographed for contemporary, West African and Samba based dance groups. She qualified as a Just Jhoom! Bollywood Bhangra Instructor in 2014 and has enjoyed teaching and performing this fun and infections style of dance ever since.
Josie is Cleria's daughter and has watched and joined in with her amazing mums classes for 18 years before training to teach herself.
Her loves include dancing, aerial, teaching step and travelling. Josie's upbeat energy is infectious and we love having her teach Step, Circuits and Fit N Mix at Vida.
Jeanette started her career in the health & fitness industry 27 years ago as a fitness instructor whilst managing an independent health club in London. Here she discovered her passion for massage & studied with the London College of Massage & then with the On-site Academy of Chair massage. She studied massage & yoga in Thailand/India & continued in the UK with the London School of Sports Massage where she obtained her Btec Sports & remedial massage diploma.
Jeanette has worked at various health clubs, treatment centres, chiropractic clinics & for charities, council offices, health authorities, IT companies, law firms & insurance companies.
Jeanette specialises in Deep-tissue/ Sports, Swedish, Pregnancy & Chair massage & gets a great sense of satisfaction if she can help alleviate muscle tension & discomfort for her clients
Charlotte recently joined the Vida Active team as our receptionist and social media editor. Charlotte studies Sports Science and joined our team for a week of work experience. However, she decided to stay and work part time as she enjoyed the friendly team and wonderful members too much to say goodbye! You'll find Charlotte on the Hove Studio reception on Wednesdays and Saturdays!
Lucie loves Zumba and teaching it is her ultimate passion. She loves the empowering and freeing feeling it gives to people alongside the fitness element too!
Lucie's background is in dance and she has taught Zumba for 11 years. She's taught in Spain, as well as various locations across the UK. Lucie is also now a qualified personal trainer.
